I’m always entertained and slightly amused whenever I come across David Schwen’s work. One of my favourite projects of his, which I’m positively certain you’ve seen it before, is the Food Art Pairings project. As the name suggests, the Minneapolis-based designer pairs everyday foods that go together and photographs them. Plain and simple. From chicken and waffles, bacon and eggs to peanut butter and jam, Schwen pairs some of our favourite food into Pantone swatches.
“As a designer, you’re constantly picking color chips and pairing them up with one another. A while back I had an idea of making Pantone chips out of real household objects—sponges, cardboard, and the like. But while I was finishing up a poster design, I had taped two Pantone chips together to see how they looked next to one another. Instantly I thought of how people pair food together, and that was that. Pantone pairings.” –D.Schwen
Clever. Curious to see what he’s got planned for his next project.
